Since 2017, Mitch has leveraged his extensive experience in strategy, storytelling, and innovation to connect with professionals across the risk and insurance industry. Under his leadership, The Alliance has refined its outreach, strengthened its brand, and embraced cutting-edge marketing approaches that keep us at the forefront of education and professional development.

A Career Rooted in Innovation

Before joining The Alliance, Mitch served as the CEO of Wells Media Group, publisher of Insurance Journal. During his tenure, he spearheaded a digital transformation that expanded the company’s influence in the insurance media space. Prior to his work in marketing, Mitch spent years as a law enforcement officer with the San Diego Police Department, where he honed his skills in leadership and adaptability.

Mitch holds an MBA in e-Commerce and is a member of the board of the Insurance Marketing and Communications Association (IMCA). His unique journey from law enforcement to marketing has given him a distinctive perspective on storytelling, strategy, and perseverance.

The Power of Storytelling in Marketing

For Mitch, storytelling is more than a marketing tactic—it’s a way to build trust, inspire action, and make complex ideas relatable. “Storytelling connects people and drives progress,” he shares. “When someone feels stuck or unsure, I remind them: ‘Do something.’ Taking even a small step can create clarity and momentum.”

He often draws from his law enforcement days to illustrate this point. One favorite story involves a SWAT training exercise where new officers hesitated under fire. “The ones who moved to cover and took action, even without a clear plan, found success. That lesson has stayed with me—action leads to progress.

Transforming the Alliance’s Marketing Landscape

Since stepping into his role, Mitch has led initiatives that have elevated The Alliance’s presence in the industry. One of his most notable achievements was guiding the organization through a transformative rebranding, evolving the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research into the Risk & Insurance Education Alliance.

“This rebranding was an opportunity to honor our legacy while reflecting our forward-thinking vision,” Mitch explains. “It’s about celebrating who we are and where we’re going.”

Looking Ahead

Mitch remains excited about the role technology, including artificial intelligence, will play in the future of marketing. “AI offers unprecedented opportunities for personalization and data-driven strategies,” he says. “It’s a game-changer for connecting with our audience in meaningful ways.”
